Community Nutrition Appointment Led by Dr. Delvina Mola.

Rural Health Access Initiatives (RHAI) continues to implement community-based nutrition interventions aimed at improving child health outcomes in underserved communities across Kilimanjaro Region.
On 18th–19th April 2026, RHAI conducted weekly nutrition monitoring activities in Rau River and Miereni villages, Moshi Rural District. These sessions focused on follow-up care for children identified with moderate and severe malnutrition.
In collaboration with Community Health Workers (CHWs) and led by Dr. Delvina Mola (Clinical Officer), the team provided comprehensive services including nutrition education, growth monitoring, illness assessment, and distribution of nutritional supplements.
Key Activities Conducted:
1. Weekly follow-up appointments for malnourished children
2. MUAC screening and growth monitoring
3. Caregiver nutrition education sessions
4. Nutritional cooking demonstrations (uji lishe)
5. Distribution of nutritional supplements
6. Referral of severe cases to health facilities
7. Home visits for children who missed appointments
Results – Miereni Village:
Total children monitored: 20
5 children (25%) recovered
13 children (65%) remain moderately malnourished
4 children (20%) are severely malnourished
3 children missed scheduled appointments
Rau River Village:
Follow-up activities conducted
4 children missed appointments (tracing ongoing)
Program Analysis:
The program recorded a 25% recovery rate, demonstrating positive progress in child nutrition outcomes. However, a significant proportion of children remain moderately malnourished, indicating the need for continued intervention and caregiver support.
Missed appointments highlight the importance of strengthening follow-up systems, which RHAI is addressing through active community tracing and home visits.
Conclusion:
RHAI remains committed to ensuring no child is left behind by strengthening community-based care, improving early detection through MUAC screening, and enhancing caregiver knowledge on nutrition using locally available resources.

Weekly monitoring in Miereni Village highlights both progress and ongoing challenges in child nutrition. Out of 20 children assessed.

These findings emphasize the importance of sustained community-based interventions, caregiver education, and consistent nutritional support. Rural Health Access Initiatives (RHAI) remains committed to strengthening recovery rates and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Dedicated CHWs record nutrition data during weekly monitoring visits, ensuring accurate follow-up and early identification of malnourished children.

Continuing Education and Program Assessment.

Dr. William and the RHAI team continue caregiver education while assessing the nutrition program in the field. They engage directly with parents, discussing challenges that hinder improvement such as chronic diseases and other health concerns. This hands-on approach strengthens family knowledge, supports recovery, and ensures that every child receives the care needed to thrive.

Strengthening Community Health Systems Through Data – CHW Reporting Kahe Magharibi in Kilimanjaro | RHAI 2026.

On 3rd April 2026, Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Kahe Magharibi, Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania conducted a quarterly reporting and data validation session covering January–March 2026, alongside routine monthly data collection activities. This initiative was led by Rural Health Access Initiatives in collaboration with Mangi Health Center and under the technical supervision of Dr. Dellivina Molla.

The activity forms part of RHAI’s broader strategy to strengthen community health systems through improved data quality, accountability, and integration between community and facility-based services. By equipping CHWs with the tools and supervision needed for accurate reporting, the program enhances real-time decision-making, resource allocation, and targeted interventions.

This approach contributes to measurable improvements in primary health care delivery, particularly for underserved populations, including mothers, children, and individuals with limited access to health services in rural Tanzania.
