On 18th–19th April 2026, RHAI conducted weekly nutrition monitoring activities in Rau River and Miereni villages, Moshi Rural District. These sessions focused on follow-up care for children identified with moderate and severe malnutrition.
In collaboration with Community Health Workers (CHWs) and led by Dr. Delvina Mola (Clinical Officer), the team provided comprehensive services including nutrition education, growth monitoring, illness assessment, and distribution of nutritional supplements.
Key Activities Conducted:
1. Weekly follow-up appointments for malnourished children
2. MUAC screening and growth monitoring
3. Caregiver nutrition education sessions
4. Nutritional cooking demonstrations (uji lishe)
5. Distribution of nutritional supplements
6. Referral of severe cases to health facilities
7. Home visits for children who missed appointments
Results – Miereni Village:
Total children monitored: 20
5 children (25%) recovered
13 children (65%) remain moderately malnourished
4 children (20%) are severely malnourished
3 children missed scheduled appointments
Rau River Village:
Follow-up activities conducted
4 children missed appointments (tracing ongoing)
Program Analysis:
The program recorded a 25% recovery rate, demonstrating positive progress in child nutrition outcomes. However, a significant proportion of children remain moderately malnourished, indicating the need for continued intervention and caregiver support.
Missed appointments highlight the importance of strengthening follow-up systems, which RHAI is addressing through active community tracing and home visits.
Conclusion:
RHAI remains committed to ensuring no child is left behind by strengthening community-based care, improving early detection through MUAC screening, and enhancing caregiver knowledge on nutrition using locally available resources.
Weekly monitoring in Miereni Village highlights both progress and ongoing challenges in child nutrition. Out of 20 children assessed.
